In anticipation of Tropical Storm Idalia, the town of Oakland is offering empty sandbags to its residents. These sandbags can be obtained at Oakland Town Hall, located at 230 N. Tubb St., starting on Monday, August 28th, and will remain available as long as supplies last.
Each town address can receive a maximum of 10 empty sandbags during normal business hours, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
You’ll find the sandbag filling location at the northeast corner of South Walker Street and West Hull Avenue.
Please note that this site will not have personnel present, so residents are required to bring their own shovel or trowel for filling the sandbags.
Oakland’s Public Works Department will be collecting small branches and yard waste on Monday, August 28th, and Tuesday, August 29th, as weather conditions permit.
To ensure pickup, residents should place their yard waste out for collection by 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
Waste Management will continue with its regular trash pickup schedule on Tuesday, August 29th. Any potential changes to trash collection services for Wednesday and Friday will be communicated through an update from the town.
Currently, Town Hall is operating during its standard business hours, which are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Oakland Nature Preserve will close at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29th, and will reopen once the property has been assessed by staff.
The Healthy West Orange Arts & Heritage Center maintains its normal business hours, operating from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday.
Regarding the Oakland Avenue Charter School, its reopening schedule will follow the decisions made by Orange County Public Schools.
Please be aware that their reopening plans may differ from OCPS, which is currently scheduled to be open on Tuesday, August 29th.
