An officer-involved gunshot that left a suspect in serious condition is being looked at by the authorities.
At one in the morning on Saturday, police were called to the 100 block of Terry Place in response to allegations of an emotionally disturbed person.
When police arrived, they found a male suspect carrying a knife, which sparked the shooting. The 45-year-old suspect, Huntley Jackson from Bridgeport, repeatedly stabbed an officer in the head, neck, and shoulder.
The suspect is still in critical condition at Saint Vincent’s Hospital, where Jackson and the officer were sent. The policeman was allowed to leave the hospital.
He was taken into custody and charged with multiple counts, including attempted murder, assault in the first degree, attack on a public safety official, assault in the second degree, resisting arrest, and carrying a dangerous weapon.
A $1 million bond has been posted for him.
“When an officer goes to any kind of call, you never know what you’re going to respond to. You don’t have any idea what the circumstanced truly are until you get there and you encounter the individual,” retired state police Lt. Paul Vance stated.
Investigators have revealed body cam footage from Thursday’s savage incident in Woodbury, making this the second time this week that an officer has been stabbed while on duty.
The Office of the Inspector General, the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad, and the Office of the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Bridgeport are presently looking into the event.
In the meanwhile, while the inquiry is ongoing, the Chief’s Office has put the shooting officer on modified duty.
It is recommended that anyone with information about this occurrence call 203-806-1595 to reach the Office of the Inspector General.
