Ohio Mom Killed in Attempted Carjacking to Protect 6-year-old Son

A mother from Ohio lost her life while attempting to prevent her car from being taken while her 6-year-old son was inside a Columbus apartment building.

Following the event, Alexa Stakely passed away at a hospital on Thursday morning, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

According to police reports, on Thursday around 1:30 a.m., the 29-year-old mother went to an apartment complex on Blue Knoll Drive to pick up her son from a babysitter. According to the newspaper, Stakely drove her sleeping infant to her Honda CRV and got inside to retrieve a few of the boy’s things while the car was still running.

Upon returning outside, Stakely spotted someone behind the wheel of her car backing out onto the road, according to the Columbus Dispatch. She was heard yelling for her child and ordering the motorist to halt as she chased after the driver.

According to reports, she climbed upon the car’s hood, but the driver then hit her, causing her to fall to the ground. It was said that she sustained a “fatal wound” to her head.

Afterwards, the Honda CRV was deserted, and two males were observed fleeing from it. Now, police are searching for them. There were no wounds to the youngster.

At Winchester Trail Elementary School in Winchester, Ohio, stakely was employed, the school said on Thursday. Her profession was speech-language pathology.

“Alexa was passionate about children and speech-language therapy,” a statement from the school stated. “She was smart and compassionate, and she cared so much about helping children develop their ability to communicate. She was a great mom who was incredibly dedicated to her son. Ms. Stakely made a difference in the lives of the students and families she worked with and will be missed by so many in our community and beyond.”
