ORLANDO, Fla. — On Thursday, investigators from Orange County were able to identify the man and woman whose deaths were the result of a murder-suicide that occurred on Wednesday.
Around ten in the morning, deputies were dispatched to the Residence at West Place Apartments, which are located in the 700 block of Sherwood Terrace Drive. According to the sheriff, there was a disturbance there.
As they approached the location, deputies were able to hear the sound of gunfire.
The woman was found suffering from a gunshot wound, while the man was found suffering from a gunshot wound that was self-inflicted, according to the officials.
They added that a bullet also came close to hitting an innocent bystander who was inside the apartment complex.
Both the man and the woman were confirmed dead when they arrived at the hospital after being taken there. The onlooker received medical attention at the scene of the incident.
The victim, a woman named Brisna Alcenat, was found to be 25 years old, and the suspect, identified as Yaseen Justus Thomas, was found to be 22 years old.
Essence Gordon stated that she heard a dispute coming from an adjacent apartment complex prior to the sound of gunshots being fired.
“I heard a woman ask someone to stop following her, to leave her alone, and to go back inside the house, and the argument continued for about five minutes or so,” I overheard.
“Leave her alone!” the woman pleaded. Gordon stated, “Shortly after that, I heard a gunshot, and immediately after that, I called 911.”
When Gordon discovered out what had occurred, she was utterly heartbroken as she recalled hearing what she thought were the woman’s final words.
It was like, ‘Go and go back in the house,’ you know, ‘get away from me, get away, get away.’ It seemed as though she was attempting to flee from whoever it was that was following her, but that somebody was insistent on being in her personal space. (It is) unquestionably something that came straight from the bottom of my heart.
