In addition to the eight languages available at DMV office terminals, prospective drivers in Oregon can now take their state knowledge exams online.
This month, online examinations in Arabic, simplified Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Vietnamese were added by the state Driver and Motor Vehicle Services division.
Since October 2023, the tests have been available online in both Spanish and English.
According to the DMV, the majority of test-takers still finish the exam in its offices. However, in the first year that the virtual alternative was offered, roughly 23,000 people, or more than a quarter, chose to take it online.
The test costs the same $7 online as it does in person.

Online testing necessitates a PC with a working webcam; touchscreen devices such as phones or tablets cannot finish the test. For test-takers under the age of 18, an adult supervisor who is at least 21 years old is necessary.
Even those who pass the online exam will still need to pass a vision test and present identity credentials in person at a DMV facility.
