A special event was held at Fire Station One to pay tribute to the brave first responders who lost their lives.
Orlando police Chief Eric Smith Stated that,”9/11 is the single deadliest terrorist attack in human history and the single deadliest incident for firefighters in the history of the United States.”
In his poem “A Thin Red Line,” Orlando Poet Laureate Shawn Welcome states that heroic New York firefighters overcome their concerns in the fire to save others.
A candle was lit to honor each first responder lost on 9/11.
“A thin red line across a black and white American flag stands for the courage firefighters find to conquer their deepest fears to save and protect life, a line 343 laid their life on Sept. 11, 2001,”

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer added that, “Most of them knew that they were going to their death and as they climbed those stairs to see how many people they could save.”
Many people were very thankful for the fire safety inspector.
Alan Hirschkorn stated that, “It was not much I could do, everything, debris. You could smell death.”
Hirschkorn said, “Always remember the firefighters, the police, even the men and women that protect us and our country for our freedom.”
Smith said, “We have a solemn duty to honor their memory and their legacy, to honor and remember them, not just today but every day.”
