On Friday, as the remains of Hurricane Debby made their way across the Northeast, over twenty people and children were saved from a flooded campsite in Pennsylvania.
Around midday, PennLive reported that eight dogs, five toddlers, and fourteen adults needed to be rescued from an island in York County’s Conewago Creek. According to reports, no one was hurt.
The individuals were at Dover Township’s Campground Island, according to a local news outlet. According to Ted Czech, a representative for the York County Office of Emergency Management, Friday’s intense downpour caused the Creek to rise 12 feet over its normal level, as PennLive reported.
Prior to making landfall a second time early on Thursday as a tropical storm close to Bulls Bay, South Carolina, Debby made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane on Florida’s Big Bend coast on Monday.
In response to the extreme weather, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro issued a state of emergency declaration for twenty-one counties.
