Investigators said that early on Saturday morning, cops stopped a father who was reportedly trying to drown his two children at a West Haven beach. The children are now recovering in a Connecticut Intensive Care Unit.

Investigators said that at around 2:30 a.m., a patrol officer with the West Haven Police Department noticed an SUV parked at Dawson Avenue Beach. While the officer was inspecting the vehicle, he heard screaming coming from the ocean.

According to the authorities, the officer came into Romney Desronvil, 41, who had two kids in the water.

“As the officer entered the water the adult male continued to drift further away with the children all while screaming at the responding officers to ‘stay back,'” the West Haven Police Department stated. “It was obvious at this point that the male…was deliberately drowning his children.”

Later in the day, West Haven Mayor Dorinda Borer informed reporters that although the victims’ conditions were improving, they were still in serious condition.

She recognized Officer Williamson and Officer Miller as the two cops whose actions had saved their lives.

“They had guardian angels this morning,” Borer stated.

Investigators say that Desronvil, a resident of Queens, New York, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of attempted manslaughter and danger of injury.

The police say that more charges might be brought and that the investigation is still underway.

It took some time for the suspect’s attorney information to become available.
