After allegedly dousing his girlfriend in gasoline and attempting to run her over near a North Miami gas station last month, an Opa-locka man was taken into custody on Monday, according to the police.
Khristion Amari Owens, 25, is accused of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, grand theft of a vehicle, violence, and criminal mischief, according to North Miami police.
At the Marathon gas station, located at 13490 Memorial Highway, Owens got into a fight with his girlfriend while filling up her mother’s car. According to the police, Owens then took out a nozzle and started spraying gasoline “all over the body” of the victim on May 6.
The victim reportedly fled into the gas station out of fear for her life, but Owens pursued her.
Investigators stated that Owens “began striking her on her face and body with open and closed hands” when she was inside the petrol station.
Owens dragged the woman out of the business by her hair, according to the police. Owens “forcefully pushed her into the vehicle against her will and activated the child lock to prevent her from exiting the car and drove away in the victim’s vehicle,” according to detectives, after leaving the store.
Owens allegedly continued hitting the victim “while driving erratically throughout the local neighborhood,” according to the police. Eventually, the victim managed to get out of the car and went towards a nearby residence, pleading for help.
According to authorities, the victim was seen on security footage yelling, “Call the police!” as she got closer to a resident’s front door.
According to the report, Owens, who was still driving the car, approached his girlfriend “at a high rate of speed in an attempt to run her over.”

The victim, according to the police, managed to go up onto the front porch of the house, but Owens’ car still struck her leg.
According to the report, there was approximately $5,000 in property damage caused by the vehicle’s collision with the dwelling. According to detectives, the victim became unwell after ingesting gasoline. After being hit by the car Owens was driving, she also suffered injuries to her right leg and a cut on her right ear.
The cause of the dispute between Owens and the victim was not disclosed by the authorities. According to police, Owens was the subject of an active bench warrant for his arrest in connection with an earlier domestic assault incident.
Owens is still being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Tuesday; his bond has not yet been established.
