On Saturday night, a large group of friends and relatives gathered to honor the 14-year-old child who lost his life on July 10 in Baltimore due to stabbing while riding an MTA bus.

On Belair Road and Frankford Avenue, there was a vigil in memory of Cortez Lemon. Heartbroken, Cortez’s mother described her son as ambitious, devout, and devoted to his family.

“He was smart, he was God-fearing, he was an athlete,” Angel White stated. “He was everything to us.”

According to Baltimore Police, Cortez got into a fight with 18-year-old Brandon Adams Jr. on the bus and was repeatedly stabbed as a result. After jumping off the bus, Cortez passed out in front of a booze store.

“It’s a horrible feeling to lose my firstborn child, my only son,” White stated.

Candles were lit by friends and family over the stabbing site of Cortez. Cortez was a student at Leith Walk Elementary Middle School, where support workers described him as charming and courteous.

They claim that being present at the vigil and supporting his family was crucial.

“I’m sending prayers and love and condolences to his mother, his family, to Leith Walk, to everyone around that just knew Cortez and loved Cortez,” Joshua stated.

“This touched us in many ways,” Tyrice Campbell continued. “This is just a hit for us. And a lot of people just need to open their eyes, we need an outlet for our children.”

Adams was detained and accused of killing someone.
