For his collection of 1,019 energy drink cans, a guy from Rhode Island who is addicted to caffeine set a Guinness World Record.

Joel Spears, who goes by CaffeineMan on YouTube and lives in Tiverton, said this week that he has now had official confirmation that he has the greatest collection of energy drink cans in the world.

He submitted proof of collecting to the record-keeping organization in January.

“I never thought I would have a Guinness World Record for anything,” he stated to WJAR-TV. “The channel started being successful and I just kept collecting cans, and at one point, I said, ‘I wonder how many I have.’ Counted them all up and it ended up being a world record.”

Applying for the record was a rather complicated procedure, according to Spears, who launched his YouTube channel approximately six years ago to evaluate energy drinks.

“I had to videotape the whole entire thing, I also had to take pictures of each and every can, and what was the time-consuming part was, I didn’t know that they needed an itemized list of every single can, so that took me a long time to type up the itemized list,” he stated. “It was a long process but it was worthwhile.”

According to Spears, he often consumes one or two energy drinks every day. The Swedish Fish flavor of Ghost Energy Drink is his favorite.
