After two violent occurrences in the same week, there is growing concern about violence at Baltimore’s MTA bus stops. A 14-year-old was fatally stabbed on a bus on Wednesday, and a teenager was wounded at a bus stop on Monday.

“It ain’t like it used to be, riding the bus,” Avery Waller, a witness stated.

After a fight with 18-year-old Brandon Adams Jr., Baltimore police claimed that 14-year-old Cortez Lemon was stabbed on an MTA bus around 1:15 p.m.

Adams was taken into custody and accused of first-degree murder.

Another witness, Mike stated that, “It transpired on the bus and then it caught my attention when he came out yelling for the police.”

Lemon fell in front of a local booze store after running off the bus. It was Mike who said he tried to help him.

“We just tried to do what we could do before the authorities and stuff came,” Mike stated.

After being brought to a hospital, Lemon passed away. Adams was taken into jail by the police.

“He’s a strong individual. Even though everyone was saying it was his time to go, I could still see him pushing through. So that’s why it was shocking to me when I went on the news later on the phone and saw he passed. It’s kind of crazy,” Mike continued.

This week, there have been two incidents involving minors close to an MTA bus stop.

A young person was shot close to the Rogers Avenue bus loop on Monday morning, according to MTA police. The infant was brought to the hospital in severe condition; their age has not been disclosed. In that scenario, no one has been taken into custody yet.

“While recent increases in crime in the city have spilled over onto MTA property, they are isolated events and do not depict the full picture of safety and security on our system,” a spokesperson stated.

Riders still want to see increased security.

“Maybe an armed police officer riding on the bus every day with the bus driver,” Waller said.

Few specifics on each of these occurrences have been made public by the investigators. The status of the youngster shot on Monday, as well as the names of the suspect and victim in the stabbing on Wednesday, have not yet been made public.
