Mendocino County authorities are looking for a man who may have attempted to kill someone after a shooting occurred late on Wednesday night at an illicit cannabis growing facility.

Shortly after 11 p.m., deputies responded to reports reporting gunfire in the 26000 block of Redwood Creek Road, west of the town of Willits, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. Owing to the victim’s isolated location, deputies took thirty minutes to find them.

The victim sustained several bullet wounds. After being taken by a deputy to an ambulance close to Highway 20, the victim was flown by air ambulance to a trauma hospital located outside of Mendocino County.

While the victim was being transported, information about the suspect and the car he was driving was given to the deputies. Not long after, an Acura that matched the description of the suspected vehicle was spotted by a California Highway Patrol officer close to Willits’ Main Street and Sherwood Road.

The driver of the car resisted the officer’s attempts to stop over and gave chase for a little while.

The chase, according to the authorities, came to an end near Willits in the 24800 block of Highway 101. When last spotted, the driver was sprinting into a forest. The sheriff’s office claims that an unserialized assault gun and additional evidence were discovered inside the Acura.

Miguel Rosas Camacho of Madera was identified as the suspect after deputies questioned the victim. Both the victim and the suspect reside at the property together and are from the Madera area.

According to deputies, the victim’s health is stable as of Friday.

The sheriff’s office said that the shooting location was discovered to be a “large illegal cannabis operation” with over a thousand plants and many enormous hoop buildings. There was also a second unsealed assault rifle discovered.

“We continue to suffer violence with the illegal marijuana trade in Mendocino County,” Sheriff Matt Kendall stated on the agency’s Facebook page. “The victim suffered several gunshot wounds and was extremely lucky to survive the assault.”

While police investigated the crime site, the cannabis was destroyed. According to deputies, Camacho is “deeply involved” in narcotics and cannabis trafficking in the Mendocino County region surrounding the Round Valley.

Camacho is thought to be dangerous and armed. He might be driving a white Ford Mustang coupe, according to deputies.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office’s tip line, 707-234-7463, and 707-463-4086 are the numbers to call if you have any more information regarding the case or Camacho’s whereabouts.
