After being accused of killing his father in Oklahoma last year, a 17-year-old is now charged with killing his mother by slashing her in the neck during an altercation and saying she dropped the knife.

Grady Judd, the sheriff for Polk County, reports that Collin Griffith called the department on Sunday, September 8, claiming that he and his mother “had a very long fight and she fell on a knife and she’s bleeding from the neck.”

While deputies and emergency responders were making their way to the apartment, dispatchers provided instructions on how to administer lifesaving procedures. Griffith reportedly greeted deputies outside and seemed “calm, cool, collected” and “not upset.” Blood was allegedly found on the teen’s body.

According to Judd, deputies found an 8-inch-bladed 12-inch knife. Griffith was allegedly adamant that his mother had fallen upon the knife. After performing an autopsy the following morning, the medical examiner concluded that there was “no reasonable or plausible” explanation for how Catherine Griffith, the victim, could have passed away.

Judd continued, “Our investigation clearly and unequivocally shows the situation did not occur.”

Collin Griffith is said to have killed his mother after dragging her into a mobile home while grabbing hold of her hair, according to witnesses.

Collin Griffith reportedly dialed 911 in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, on February 14, 2023, claiming that his father, Charles Griffith, had drawn a knife on him and that he had shot him in the head and chest as a form of self-defense. Prosecutors first charged him with first-degree murder, but they were quickly dismissed because they were unable to rule out his argument of self-defense.

Griffith moved in with his mother in Charlotte County, Florida, in March of 2023. He was placed under Baker Acted, a temporary involuntary hold resulting from a mental health emergency, a few months later.

“I’ll kill myself or my mother by shooting or stabbing her,” he allegedly informed authorities after leaving the hospital.

His name was Baker. Acted immediately thereafter and issued a few days later.

In November 2023, Griffith was taken into custody on charges of assaulting his mother for allegedly taking away his video gaming rights. According to reports, he claimed it was self-defense, but his grandmother wasn’t there and didn’t agree.

According to reports, Collin Griffith and Catherine Griffith were frequently at odds, and at one point, his grandmother expressed that she did not feel secure in his presence. According to Judd, Collin Griffith returned to his mother’s custody two days after being given up to DCF on February 12.

Judd claims that Collin Griffith threatened to kill his mother in order to escape going home because he “didn’t want to go home.”

On September 6, there was a reported argument between Collin Griffith and Catherine Griffith at her Charlotte County home. He took refuge in Auburndale, Polk County, at his grandmother’s house. At 4:30 p.m., Catherine Griffith allegedly continued to dispute with the grandmother when she arrived at her home. After two hours, he made a 911 call.

According to Judd, Collin Griffith “”used similar language in the 911 call when he shot and killed his father.”

Judd labeled Collin Griffith a “psychopath,” adding, “At 17 years of age, he’s already shot and killed his father and got away with it and stabbed his mother in the neck so hard that the knife went all the way through and was to the back of her neck.”

The state attorney’s office is being asked by the sheriff’s office to charge him as an adult.

Judd was apparently contacted by Oklahoman prosecutors who threatened to reopen the case if Polk County detectives “developed information” about Charles Griffith’s murder. He is accused of kidnapping, capital murder, and disobeying a no-contact order.

“He is violent. He’s dangerous. He showed zero remorse,” Judd stated. “He is a dangerous human being.”
