HIALEAH, FLA. – A Hialeah police officer went to the hospital after a biker on a stolen motorbike ran him over during a traffic stop.
Robert Ortiz was caught and faces several charges while, according to police, he was out on felony bond from another case.
Authorities said that around 4 a.m. on Sunday, Hialeah Police officers were trying to stop Ortiz near East Fourth Avenue and 49th Street.
As cops walked toward the suspect, Ortiz sped up and hit one of them with a stolen motorcycle from Miami, the police said.
Police said Ortiz ran away from the scene on foot and into a neighborhood.
Officers who came to the scene set up a barrier, which helped them find and catch the suspect.
As of Sunday night, the hurt cop was waiting for surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
As the investigation is still going on, the police have not said why they pulled Ortiz over.
