Over the weekend, a series of violent incidents occurred in Jacksonville, resulting in three people being shot and one person found dead. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has provided details on these incidents:
Man Shot on Jacksonville’s Westside
Police responded to a shooting at 800 Lane Avenue South at 2:30 a.m. A man in his 20s had suffered a single gunshot wound to the lower body. He was taken to the hospital in non-life-threatening condition.
The victim was shot when he intervened in a fight between the suspect and another man. The suspect produced a firearm during the altercation and shot the victim. The suspect was subsequently detained by officers.
Woman Found Dead outside North Shore Residence
At 7:30 a.m. A woman’s lifeless body was discovered outside a residence in the North Shore area. Police received a 911 call reporting a person in distress in the 6800 block of North Pearl Street.
Upon arrival, officers found an unidentified woman in her mid-20s unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene by JFRD. The cause of her injuries has not been disclosed, and it is unclear whether foul play was involved.
Man Shot outside Winn-Dixie on Jacksonville’s Southside
A shooting occurred outside a Winn-Dixie in broad daylight at the 8700 block of Old Kings Road South around 12:30 p.m. A man in his 40s sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting resulted from an argument between the suspect, a man leaving a business, and the victim, a homeless man, in the Winn-Dixie parking lot. The suspect, described as a man wearing a multi-colored jacket with cream-colored pants, and an unknown female fled the scene in a white sedan.
Woman Shot while Riding in Vehicle on I-10 West
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect vehicle, described as a red Mercedes sedan, following a shooting incident on Interstate 10.
A woman in her 30s was shot in the hip while traveling as a passenger in a vehicle. Her injuries are non-life-threatening.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on I-10 near Luna Avenue, where a red Mercedes sedan started tailgating the victim’s vehicle. The Mercedes changed lanes, passed the victim’s vehicle, and the driver of the Mercedes fired a shot, striking the victim.
The occupants of the suspect vehicle were described as an unknown man and woman. This weekend saw a concerning level of violence in Jacksonville, with multiple incidents involving firearms, one of which resulted in a fatality.
Police are actively investigating these cases, and in some instances, suspects have been identified and detained, while in others, suspects remain at large.
