As August comes to a close, residents in 19 states and territories should anticipate receiving their food stamp benefits by this Sunday.
These funds, which can amount to as much as $1,751 for a household of eight, will be loaded onto an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. This card functions like a debit card and can be used at any supermarket or grocery store that accepts EBT. To be eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a household’s income must be at or below 130% of the federal poverty line, equating to $2,072 per month or $32,328 per year. SNAP benefits are distributed throughout the year.
States and territories have varying schedules for disbursing these benefits, with some spreading payments across the entire month.
Individual recipients may receive a monthly benefit of up to $291.
The administration and distribution of SNAP benefits differ across states, districts, and territories. Some allocate funds based on a recipient’s case number, while others do so according to the first letter of the recipient’s last name.
