After a witness to a collision was struck by another vehicle while attempting to provide assistance, one driver died and the other is being prosecuted.
The activities took place early on Sunday morning in the 5200 block of East Capitol Street, Southeast, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
It was just after 3:30 a.m., according to investigators, when a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu hit multiple cars before toppling over and resting on its roof. After seeing the collision, a man and a woman who were strolling by decided to assist the two women who were inside the car.
According to the police, at that moment, a 2013 Lexus GS350 passed by and struck the recently crashed Malibu as well as the man attempting to assist the two women. The driver of the Lexus apparently fled after abandoning the vehicle.
The man attempting to rescue the two women from the downed Malibu and himself were rushed to a nearby hospital for assistance. Afterwards, the Malibu’s driver passed away from her wounds. Since then, her identity has been confirmed as 34-year-old Taneisha Parker.

As of right now, there’s no news on the status of the other woman or the pedestrian.
Police observed a person who fit the description of the Lexus driver enter a DC Fire and EMS firehouse in the Northeast less than an hour after the initial collision. His injuries, according to the police, were consistent with those from a car accident.
Terrance Gordan, 39, the driver who was eventually identified, is accused of entering the vehicle illegally and fleeing after it collided. According to the police, additional charges will come after more research.
