On July Fourth, there were reports of damage from two tornadoes near Louisville and southern Indiana.

Damage reports from a preliminary EF-1 tornado were consistent around Woodland Avenue, close to Catapla Street and Cypress Street in Louisville, according to the National Weather Service.

Before moving into Kentucky, the strong storm briefly issued a tornado warning in southern Indiana. Our crews observed a number of huge trees near Woodland Avenue that had fallen due to the high winds.

The NWS reports that the winds from the Louisville tornado reached 95 mph when it made landfall close to 28th Street and Woodland Avenue.

Additionally, survey personnel from the NWS evaluated the damage inflicted by a first EF-0 in Harrison County, Indiana.

Peak speeds of 80 mph were recorded by officials, and the tornado’s course, which began at I-135, went about one mile between Sky Aire Road NE and IN-335. North of Corydon, Indiana, was where it terminated.

Survey teams are still evaluating storm damage in west Louisville, according to NWS officials. There have been no reports of injuries from either tornado.

A number of Thursday’s Independence Day events were postponed or cancelled because of the extreme weather danger.
