After a dispute at a petrol station in southwest Miami-Dade, police said the 19-year-old male shot the victim. This led to the suspect’s early Tuesday morning arrest.

According to Miami-Dade police, the victim and Manuel Alejandro Rodriguez got into a fight at the Mobil gas station at 11900 SW Eighth Street.

Just after two in the morning, according to the police, Rodriguez was paying for petrol at the station’s outside window when the altercation started.

The victim asked him for the time shortly after, which, according to the authorities, started a fight. When the victim hurled a plastic trash can at Rodriguez and turned to leave, according to the police, the situation got worse.

Rodriguez retaliated by drawing a gun and pointing it at the victim, who was declared by the police to be unarmed and not a threat at that moment.

Rodriguez was allegedly yelled at by the victim, who declared, “If you are going to shoot me, then do it.” Rodriguez allegedly fired one shot, hitting the victim in the hip, according to the authorities, and then left the area.

An arrest report states that the victim received treatment at Jackson South Medical Center for a gunshot wound. Rodriguez was detained at his residence after the authorities claimed they were able to identify him through a picture lineup.

He is charged with one count of second-degree attempted murder, according to jail records. Rodriguez’s bond has not yet been set at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was being held as of Thursday.
