The schedule for next month may have caught some Social Security recipients off guard: an additional SSI check payment is planned for November.
Those who closely monitor the Social Security Administration’s 2024 schedule, which outlines the dates for various payment kinds throughout the year, might not be as surprised by the minor shift on the administration’s calendar. The change could nonetheless be confusing for some who are accustomed to having money deposited into their accounts once a month.
This may be explained simply: it all boils down to the calendar. In 2024, almost 7.5 million people will be receiving SSI payments, so even a seemingly small change could cause some uncertainty.
There won’t be an SSI check in December due to the identical anomaly that causes two checks in November. When they received two payments in August and no SSI check in September, SSI beneficiaries encountered the same predicament.

Why do those who receive SSI receive two checks in November?
Due to a minor scheduling error, Supplemental Security Income recipients will actually receive two November checks.
Since December 1st occurs on a Sunday this year, SSI payments for December will be made on the Friday prior, as per the SSA calendar. Normally, SSI benefits, which are payments for low-income elderly and disabled individuals, arrive on the first business day of each month.
Therefore, the following dates in November will see the distribution of SSI checks:
- Friday, November 1st,
- Friday, November 29th

This year, SSI applications will be made simpler
Later this year, Americans will be able to apply for SSI benefits using a new, simplified approach, the SSA revealed last week.
According to a news statement from the agency, the new online system, known as iClaim, will have easier, plain-language questions designed to speed up the process for both applicants and claims processors.
However, when the new system starts to roll out immediately, not all applicants will have instant access to it. According to the SSA, first-time applicants who are between the ages of 18 and almost 65, have never married, and are applying for both SSI and Social Security benefits at the same time will typically be eligible for the December phase.
