Student Struck by Truck in Florida, Driver Covers License Plate and Flees, Deputies Report

WPBN: The investigation led to the arrest of a woman from Florida who was accused of driving her truck into a teenager who was crossing the street, covering her license plate, and then speeding away.

After being taken into custody on Thursday, Sarah Wright, who is 37 years old, was charged with driving with a suspended license and fleeing the scene of an accident while she was injured.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the collision took place in Deltona, Florida, at the junction of Gage Avenue and Noah Street, just before 4 o’clock in the afternoon.

The victim, a youngster of sixteen years old, was riding his scooter home from Pine Ridge High School when he was struck by a black Chevrolet Silverado as he was utilizing the crosswalk, according to the sheriff’s office. The victim was traveling home from school.

The adolescent sustained a major laceration to the back of his head as well as an injury to his arm after falling to the ground; yet, he continued to be aware and conscious following the occurrence.

The witness stated that she was in the vicinity of the incident and was checking her mailbox when she heard the crash. After the collision, she informed the detectives that the suspect, who was subsequently determined to be Wright, got out of her truck and checked on the youngster. After that, she went back to her car and covered her license plate with paper and tape.

With that being said, the witness was still able to make out the initial character of her tag. In addition, a Ring camera installed in the area filmed the truck as it fled the scene.

Both the victim and the witness were able to provide a comprehensive description of the person who was suspected of the crime.

A suspect vehicle that had been photographed on a nearby license plate reader video was therefore able to be located by the authorities within a matter of minutes.

After being located in Flagler County, Wright was taken into jail with the assistance of the Florida Highway Patrol and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

On a bond of $3,500, she was taken into custody and lodged into the Flagler County Jail.

It is anticipated that the adolescent sufferer would make a full recovery, despite the fact that he required staples for the laceration while also receiving treatment for the lesion to his arm.
