In the Philadelphia metro area, drivers are paying less on average per gallon of gas.

The average cost of a gallon of normal gas in Philadelphia is $3.24, according to AAA. For drivers in northern Delaware and South Jersey, where the average cost is $2.95, and $2.99, respectively, the stats get much better.

According to data from GasBuddy, the average price of a gallon of fuel has been falling gradually since July, and the current 20% price decline is consistent with this national trend.

When gas prices at a Mount Ephraim station dropped to as low as $2.79 per gallon, it was great news for those filling up.

Brionna Fennel took a pause during her lunch break to refuel. She claimed that it had been at least a few years since she had seen petrol prices so low. She explained that in order to benefit from the cost reductions, she must quit.

“I saw $2.79, I knew I needed some more gas. I’m like, ‘I’m going for it,'” Fennel stated. “People like myself, who are on the road every single day for work or whatever else, you want to find gas for a good decent price.”

Lower travel demand, a relatively peaceful hurricane season thus far, and high interest rates are all contributing to price reductions, according to Patrick De Haan, vice president of media relations and communications at GasBuddy.

“We haven’t seen it this low really since the pandemic,” De Haan stated. “A lot of that is the function of the federal reserve having slowed down the economy enough to where Americans slowed down consumption.”

Rochford hoped the declining trend would hold true until the end of the year. He works as a personal driver for a taxi service that frequently takes clients to Philadelphia International Airport. The money, he claimed, was a welcome break.

The expectation among experts is that gas prices would continue to decline until late December, which would grant drivers’ wishes.
