Suspect Dresses as Woman to Conceal Identity in Kentucky Heists

Within five hours, according to the police, an Owensboro man was apprehended in a third county after robbing two establishments in two separate counties on Tuesday at gunpoint.

Maurice Watkins reportedly got into a wig and purse, held up the Cricket Wireless store on the Henderson strip at gunpoint, and then traveled to Hopkins County to do the same at a Dollar General in Hanson, according to Henderson police.

When Watkins stole Cricket Wireless, according to the police, he took less than $200. Watkins struck the Dollar General, according to authorities, around two hours later while wearing the same outfit.

Less than two hours after Watkins was apprehended in Owensboro, authorities claim that a search of his vehicle turned up a phony gun and the clothes he had on during both robberies.

Watkins attempted to mislead investigators by posing as a woman, but his targets were not duped.

According to Lt. Stuart O’Nan of the Henderson Police Department, Watkins’ attire suggested that she was trying to pass for a woman.

But when we talked to the Cricket Wireless clerk, she insisted that a man was carrying out the heist.

In response to an armed robbery of a Dollar General last Friday, Owensboro police arrested Watkins on a warrant out of Hopkinsville.

Watkins and Sylvia Castro were taken into custody on a number of offenses, including possession of meth. Castro’s role in the crimes was not made clear by Henderson police.
