Texas Officials Say They’re Not Shipping Migrants to Fresno

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was reportedly planning to transport busloads of asylum-seeking migrants to Fresno, but a government official refuted the allegations on Thursday.

At City Hall on Thursday, rumors started circulating that Fresno was receiving a huge number of immigrants who had first crossed the border in Texas.

The Texas Division of Emergency Preparedness’s Seth W. Christensen, however, informed David Taub of GV Wire that “we do not have a bus currently en route to Fresno.”

Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. are the “current destinations” for migrants who have “overwhelmed Texas border communities,” according to Christensen.

Additionally, he mentioned that the migrants are being transported to “sanctuary cities.”

Over 90,000 Migrants Are Forced to Leave Texas

Abbott’s contentious choice to bus immigrants out of Texas has grown to be a contentious subject and a central topic of discussion in the 2024 presidential contest. He has gained a lot of support from Republicans for the strategy, but Democrats have been vociferous opponents.

Mayors in the cities that are being targeted must work quickly to give the migrants food, clothing, and shelter. Additionally, they are seeking financial assistance from the Biden administration.

“Our cities are working shoulder-to-shoulder to support newcomers.” Denver Mayor Mike Johnston stated. “But it’s time for the federal government to increase work authorization, create a coordinated entry strategy, and provide more federal dollars to ensure cities can manage this crisis and help newcomers thrive.”

CNN claimed in late December that “the Lone Star state has bused over 90,000 migrants to’sanctuary cities’ run by Democrats… since April 2022,” citing Texas records.

The precise figures that Texas officials released up until December 29, 2023 are as follows:

  • Since April 2022, over 12,500 migrants have arrived in Washington, D.C.
  • Since August 2022, almost 33,600 migrants have arrived in New York City.
  • Since August 2022, almost 28,000 migrants have arrived in Chicago.
  • Since November 2022, almost 3,400 migrants have arrived in Philadelphia.
  • Since May 18, about 13,800 migrants have arrived in Denver.
  • Since June 14, about 1,300 migrants have arrived in Los Angeles.

“The mayors of New York, Chicago, and Denver are trying to slow the surge by requiring the bus operators to coordinate arrivals under the threat of impoundment, fines, and even jail time,” CNN further claimed.
