A welfare check revealed that a 21-year-old guy was suspected of killing his grandparents. The Austin Police Department reports that on Saturday, September 21, in the afternoon, police were called to a home on Brookhill Drive.
A number of worried callers asked that Shari Mallory-Maxa, 75, and Anthony Maxa, 76, be checked by the police since “Kyler Monaghan was refusing to open the door to let them see the couple.”
When Chevy Kyler Monaghan was approached by police in the driveway, he informed them that his grandparents were inside the house and uninjured.
At the time, authorities saw Monaghan stuffing bags into the back of his grandmother’s car, according to an arrest affidavit.
According to the affidavit, Monaghan spoke with officers in a “nonchalant” manner. He was said to have “calmly sat down, lit a marijuana cigarette, and opened a soda can.”
An officer discovered firearms, prescription medicine, and his grandmother’s pearls in Monaghan’s pockets. It was also alleged by authorities that he had carried boxes of women’s jewels into his grandmother’s car.
