Thanksgiving Terror At Least 6 Connecticut Democrats Receive Bomb Threats

On Thanksgiving morning, Connecticut’s two Democratic senators and all five of its House Democrats reported getting bomb threats.

According to separate announcements, Sen. Chris Murphy, Rep. Jim Himes, Rep. John Larson, Joe Courtney, Rosa DeLauro, and Rep. Jahana Hayes were all singled out.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal was the only one of the seven Democrats from Connecticut who did not comment on the threats.

The bomb threats, according to each politician, were made on Thursday morning. Many said they had received notification of the bomb threat, with Hayes claiming local police had directly notified her.

According to Hayes’ testimony, she was contacted at 7:47 a.m. EST by Wolcott Police Department Chief Edward Stephens. Police were informed that she had received a threatening email stating that a pipe bomb had been left in her mailbox at home.

Local police responded to each of the six Democrats’ residences and found no device, they all verified.

According to a statement from a spokesman for Senator Murphy, the series of threats seemed to be “part of a coordinated effort involving multiple members of Congress and public figures.”

These bomb threats follow bomb threats and swatting calls that Republican President-elect Donald Trump received Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning for a number of his Cabinet and administrative selections.

“Aware of the numerous bomb threats and swatting incidents” against officials of the incoming administration, the FBI stated Wednesday.

The threats come after a contentious election campaign in which Trump, who narrowly avoided murder, prevailed but frequently used derogatory language to disparage Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party. Trump was described by Harris and her party as a danger to American democracy.

“There is no place for political violence in this country,” Himes stated, “and I hope that we may all continue through the holiday season with peace and civility.”
