In 2018, a man managed to escape from a federal prison located in Littleton, Colorado but was eventually caught in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Authorities revealed that he had been using a flashy alias during his time on the run.
The man was identified as Allen Todd May, aged 58, and he had successfully escaped from the Englewood Federal Correctional Institution on December 21, 2018. May’s escape went unnoticed as he stole a Bureau of Prisons work truck and left the prison grounds undetected.
After leaving the prison, he made his way to a Denver location, where he used a credit card to rent a U-Haul truck. Hours later, he abandoned the U-Haul truck behind a Waffle House in Fort Worth, Texas.
The day after his escape, he was spotted at his mother’s house in Houston, but after that, the trail went cold for several years until an anonymous tipster came forward a few months ago.
Following the anonymous tips, the United States Marshals Service began investigating the possibility that May had changed his identity and was now residing in South Florida. The investigators eventually discovered that May had adopted the name “Jacob Turner” and was leading a luxurious life in West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
In mid-May, a photograph of him at a high society fundraiser was published in the Palm Beach Daily News, where he was identified as Jacob Turner in the caption.
The breakthrough in the case came when May was arrested at a Fort Lauderdale residence, located less than two miles away from the beach. The investigators found the house to be worth almost $1.5 million.
At the time of his arrest, May was found wearing a Rolex watch and driving a Mercedes valued at approximately $125,000, as reported by the agents involved in his apprehension.
