RINGGOLD, Ga. — A woman died in Ringgold on Wednesday in a very strange and tragic accident. We are trying to find out more about it.
A car in front of Autumn McClure from Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, lost a brake caliper and it went through the window, killing her. Her boyfriend and family say this.
Ringgold Police said they were looking into what happened but couldn’t say anything else until the investigation was over.
At the time of the crash, McClure was in the passenger seat while her boyfriend drove. They were taking Autumn’s younger brother to daycare.
Her boyfriend wrote on Facebook that she would have been 21 next month.
The crew found the car on Thursday in Ringgold.
But we still haven’t heard back from Ringgold Police, who we were told worked the case. The person who answered the phone had no idea what was going on and said that a report on the event probably wouldn’t come out until next week.
We still don’t know if the driver whose car the brake caliper came off of stopped or knew what had happened.
Georgia law says it is illegal to drive with a load that is not fastened. If you are found guilty, you could spend up to 12 months in jail and pay a $1,000 fine.
According to her death notice, Autumn was the Salutatorian of her high school class of 2022.
A similar crash that killed one person happened on I-75 in Whitfield County in May 2023. A passenger in a car also died in that crash. Check out our story.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that things on the road kill 730 people every year. 81% of these accidents are caused by loads that are not secured on passenger cars.
