In the North Dakota Republican caucuses on Monday, former President Donald Trump triumphed against former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, marking yet another step toward the GOP presidential nomination.
The North Dakota contest was the final one before Super Tuesday, the day when the greatest number of delegates will be decided for the 2024 presidential nomination.
Haley has gained additional delegates from the early voting states, but she has only triumphed in one GOP nominating race thus far, in Washington, D.C.
If Trump receives at least 60% of the statewide vote, he will claim all 29 of North Dakota’s GOP delegates. If he doesn’t, the delegates will be distributed between him and Haley in accordance with the results of the last statewide vote.
On March 30, North Dakota Democrats will have a presidential primary. In more than a dozen states on Tuesday, 865 delegates, or 36% of all the delegates in the contest, will be up for grabs.
The nominee will be the candidate who secures the majority of the party’s delegates, or 1,215 out of 2,429 total, prior to this summer’s Republican National Convention.
