Republicans have raised money from GOP voters for a long time by using the name and likeness of former President Donald Trump.
Trump is now taking tough measures, requesting that campaigns pay him a 5% share of any funds they raise in this manner.
The Trump campaign sent a letter to GOP vendors this week that said, “Beginning tomorrow, we ask that all candidates and committees who choose to use President Trump’s name, image, and likeness split a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC,” as reported by POLITICO.
Additionally, the campaign is requesting that Republicans who are soliciting money refrain from posing as Trump, implying that those who do not donate are not supporters of the president, and bringing up the Trump family without the campaign’s approval.

“Any vendor whose clients ignore the guidelines mentioned above will be held responsible for their clients’ actions,” the letter states. “Repeated violations will result in the suspension of business relationships between the vendor and Trump National Committee JFC.”
The apparent crackdown may be an attempt by Trump, who has long lagged behind President Biden in fundraising, to make up ground.
