Two Injured in Post-Graduation Attack by 5 Masked Assailants in New York

Following a high school graduation ceremony in New York on Wednesday, two individuals were slashed in the leg and one in the ear by five masked males, according to school officials.

According to a statement issued on behalf of the schools, the attack happened outside a sports complex at Hofstra University on Long Island as graduates from Hempstead and Uniondale high schools were exiting the building with their families.

The individual who was stabbed in the leg was identified in the statement as a student’s guest. According to the statement, the student who had intervened was sliced in the ear.

A hospital was visited by both victims. Their health status wasn’t immediately apparent.

At 4:20 p.m., Nassau County police said that they were called in regarding a potential assault at the Hofstra campus. Whether any suspects were taken into custody was not immediately apparent.

The schools released a statement saying that everyone who attended the ceremony had gone through magnetometers and that the attack is thought to be related to a domestic dispute.

“We underscore that this incident took place outside of the graduation venue,” as per the statement. “Our security team is cooperating with Nassau County Police and Hofstra Public safety officers.”

A Hofstra University representative stated that the campus was safe and directed any inquiries to law enforcement. Not all of the incident’s specifics were immediately known.
