NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Authorities say that two people were caught after they ran away from the scene of a crash in north Miami Beach Wednesday morning that sent one man to the hospital.
North Miami Beach police say that around 11:30 a.m., they went to a crash where one person was stuck because his car had flipped over near the corner of Northeast 11th Avenue and Northeast 163rd Street.
Authorities said that the person in the car was freed and taken to a hospital nearby.
Police said that the two people who caused the crash later ran away and may have been armed.
Police said that after a perimeter search, they caught two guys near where the crash happened.
Sky 10 flew over the crash site, where one of the cars hit the fence of a nearby house.
Local 10 News got surveillance footage that showed one of the two people who ran away from the scene was wearing a ski mask.
A police officer in North Miami Beach said that the third person in the car was a woman. She tried to run away at first, but she ended up staying at the scene because she was hurt in the crash.
One witness said, “We were in the house when we heard a loud crash. When we came outside, there were about three very young kids running away from my house.”
“It might have been like a fight-or-flight reaction. “One of them was wearing a ski mask, so I wasn’t sure if they stole the car or not,” said another witness.
K-9 units were being used by police at the spot to check out another car.
Eunice Currithers told Local 10 News that one of the cars involved in the incident crashed into her fence, but she says she’s lucky no one was badly hurt.
“What if there wasn’t a fence? She said, “It would run right into the house.” “You never know, maybe someone will die.”
Authorities haven’t said anything about the victim’s health or the condition of the suspects in the crash.
