The University of Pittsburgh reported in a statement that one person was arrested on Friday night after a guy “yielding a bottle” attacked a group of Jewish students on campus.
The statement said that the suspect had no known connection to the institution and that he was “immediately arrested.”
The institution reported that after two students received on-site treatment, representatives got in touch with the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and the Hillel institution Center to extend support to the students.
“While there is not believed to be any ongoing threat to the public stemming from this incident, we recognize that incidents like these are unsettling to our Pitt community,” the university stated. “To be clear: Neither acts of violence nor antisemitism will be tolerated.”
On the main campus of the university, the tragedy happened close to the Cathedral of Learning, a prominent structure.
Situated across the street from the Cathedral of Learning, the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh are the site of an earlier violent incident that the University of Pittsburgh Police Department stated it did not feel was related to the current incident.
At ~5:30pm, Police, Fire, & EMS responded 4400 Forbes Ave. in Oakland for a male with a GSW to his upper right thigh.
He was transported in stable condition.
