The U.S. had an easier time on Wednesday than it did in the exhibition match against South Sudan, which it narrowly won by one point this month.
After winning 103-86, the United States improved to 2-0 in group play. With the defeat, South Sudan dropped to 1-1. For the great majority of the competition, the U.S. was ahead. It had some early back-and-forth action, but with less than four minutes remaining in the first quarter, it took the lead, which it would maintain for the remainder of the game.
The highlight was Bam Adebayo. He finished with eight points on ten shots after coming off the bench. He also added two 3-pointers, seven rebounds, and two blocks for good measure.
Elsewhere, five players contributed equally, with five of them scoring in double digits. In comparison to their opening match against Serbia, the U.S. appeared somewhat different. Joel Embiid started at center in that game, and it’s noteworthy that Jayson Tatum never saw the floor.
Coach Steve Kerr began Anthony Davis in lieu of Joel Embiid and Tatum in lieu of Jrue Holiday against South Sudan.
Holiday was a member of the bench group that also included Adebayo, Kevin Durant, Derrick White, and Anthony Edwards, while Embiid did not play at all.
