Years after he was last seen leaving for a construction site in Salt Lake City, the family of a missing construction worker in Utah is in dire need of information.
On November 20, 2017, Justin Hooiman left for work at around six in the morning. Along the way, he gave his mother a call, and they agreed to have lunch together.
“He is a spoiled, 27-year-old boy who was craving Chipotle,” his sister, Misty Beaver stated. “He said, ‘Mom, I’m craving Chipotle, do you think you could meet me for lunch?’ She of course said yes.”
He didn’t communicate with anyone again after that. When Marilyn Stevenson, his mother, went to visit him at work, he wasn’t there.
“He had never showed up for work that day,” Beaver stated. “So somewhere between leaving for work and getting to work, he disappeared.”
Nothing new was displayed on his credit card. After one final ping on his phone, he hasn’t been in contact.
Investigators started looking into the case as a possible homicide in March 2021 after the family claims a federal informant claimed to have killed him.
Hooiman’s family was one of several that went to Nashville for CrimeCon 2024 last month in an effort to get answers and bring attention to the unsolved crimes of their loved ones.
After suffering a leg injury, the former high school soccer star was administered OxyContin, a medication that his sister claimed she now opposes for all applications, particularly for young patients.
She claimed that following yet another shoulder surgery, he developed an addiction and started taking stronger narcotics, although he was receiving therapy and working for pay.
“He’s not some loser on the streets,” Beaver stated. “He matters, and I miss his hugs every single day of my life.”

When Hooiman was last seen in Salt Lake City, he was approximately 190 pounds in weight and stood six feet one inch tall. His eyes and hair are both brown.
When Hooiman vanished, he was residing at a halfway house known as Fortitude. The family’s private investigator, Jason Jensen, claims that that morning Hooiman and another resident departed together.
“We are interested to hear from the public about their experience with dangerous individuals at Fortitude, in particular during the November 2017 time-frame,” Jensen stated. “We would like to learn who resided there at that time, and who may have visited individuals residing there at that time.”

“I would love nothing more than to have the help of anybody to help bring him home and close this case for us,” Beaver stated.
