A 29-year-old man was killed and three others were injured when two masked gunmen on the backs of different scooters opened fire on a Bronx street on Tuesday night, according to the authorities.
Around 6:15 p.m., assistant NYPD chief Benjamin Gurley stated during a press conference from the site that the gunmen, who rode mopeds, fired off at least ten shots into a group of males near East Mount Eden Avenue and Townsend Avenue.
After being shot in the leg and chest, the deadly victim was declared dead at the hospital, according to Gurley.
According to him, every injured victim was shot in the leg. According to law enforcement officials, the victims’ ages are 37, 31, and 23.
The perpetrators, according to Gurley, left the area on the scooters while wearing masks and hoodies during the gunshots. Police stated that although one suspect was brought into custody, it is unclear if he had any direct connection to the shooting.
If there was a gang connection to the shooting, police are looking into it.Following the incident on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry pledged that the department will “aggressively” clamp down on illicit scooters, dirt bikes, and ATVs and send a community response team to patrol the Bronx neighborhood.

9,500 scooters, dirt motorcycles, and ATVs have been removed from the road since the beginning of the year, including 2,500 in the Bronx, according to Daughtry during the news conference.
Police have arrested 1,300 people in relation to people riding scooters for a variety of offenses.
Gurley stated that “we get the bang for our buck” when the criminal justice system keeps repeat offenders accountable.
“And we’re working with the DA’s office to do that,” he stated.
