A powerful cold front that is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms to areas of northern Florida. From Cedar Key, Florida to Jacksonville, the same areas are being soaked by the heavy rain and thunder that is moving swiftly from west to east.
Overnight, extremely cold air is predicted to spread throughout much of the Southeast, Gulf Coast, and north Florida, which is the underlying story behind it.
As temperatures in the low to mid-30s continue to drop, the National Weather Service has issued freeze warnings and frost advisories for the majority of the Florida panhandle and north Florida for tonight and tomorrow morning.
In other areas, there are freeze and frost warnings/watches that extend into the southeast corner of North Carolina and parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.
Overnight and early tomorrow, temperatures in these regions are predicted to drop below freezing.
All things considered, a very cold trend is expected to develop over the course of the next few weeks, with recurrent bursts of bitterly cold northern air probably continuing into mid-December.

During this period, we could also observe a rise in the likelihood of snowfall in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
