Water Main Break Forces Boil Water Advisory in Atlanta: What You Need to Know

A large water main ruptured early on Friday morning, and much of Atlanta is still under a boil advisory.

The breach occurred close to the intersection of James P. Brawley Drive and Joseph E. Boone Boulevard Northwest at approximately eight in the morning EDT, according to the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management.

According to officials, the transmission main broke as a result of three lines supplying the city with substantial volumes of water. For a large portion of midtown and downtown, this has resulted in poor water pressure and water interruptions.

A date for the restoration of water services is not yet available.

Two more breaks were discovered near West Peachtree and 11th Street as well as Atlantic Drive, according to DWM officials’ Friday night report. It is said that the fractures have nothing to do with the primary break.

The situation has affected eateries and commercial establishments, leaving numerous homes without a dependable water source.

A large portion of Atlanta’s water supply was cut off by the DWM on Friday night, and people were advised to boil their water “out of abundance of caution.”

On Saturday, the boil notice remained in effect.

The department posted on Facebook on Saturday afternoon, saying, “DWM crews are diligently working to make repairs to the water main located at the intersection of Joseph E. Boone Blvd and JP Brawley.”

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

A number of events scheduled for this weekend in downtown Atlanta were canceled or rescheduled, including rapper Megan Thee Stallion’s show at State Farm Arena.
