WPBN: After several Wawa locations in Philadelphia ceased operations in recent years, another location is closing.
Due to its small size, Wawa announced on Thursday that its Center City location at 16th and Ranstead streets will close on December 9. The business is situated between Market and Chestnut streets, immediately west of City Hall.
“Our 16th and Ranstead store initially opened in 2020 as a pilot test of a smaller urban store concept, which also included a walk-up window,” according to Wawa’s statement. “However, due to its limited size, we have determined that we are not able to provide the same kind of in-store experience and full Wawa offer that customers expect.”
According to Wawa, all of the staff working at the 16th and Ranstead site have been given the opportunity to work at other stores in the area.
At the beginning of this year, Wawa was forced to close a store located in the Spring Garden neighborhood of the city because the owner of the property refused to allow the firm to extend its lease.
In 2022, two Wawa outlets in Center City were shut down owing to safety and security concerns. These sites were located at 19th and Market streets and 12th and Market streets respectively.
