Wawa’s Rapid Expansion in Florida – Which Location Will Be Next to Open Near You?

The popular grocery store and gas station chain Wawa is getting ready to open its newest location in Miami-Dade County. This means that Wawa is still growing in South Florida.

A Facebook event says that the newest Wawa in the Sunshine State will open on Thursday, May 11 at 11200 S.W. 248 St. in Homestead, which is near Princeton.

From 8 to 9 a.m., there will be a big opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a Hoagies for Heroes competition, in which first responders will make hoagies to raise money for charities of their choosing.

At 8 a.m., the first 100 customers will get free T-shirts, and customers will get free coffee all day long. Wally, the Wawa spokesman bird, will be there for pictures.

The “Coming Soon” part on Wawa’s website says that several other shops are being built in Florida. Some places that are set to open before this fall are:

  • 7790 Gate Parkway in Jacksonville
  • 2901 W. 16 Ave., Hialeah
  • N.W. 116th Way and N.W. South River Drive, Miami
  • 970 Cassat Ave., Jacksonville
  • 1851 N. Federal Hwy., Hollywood
  • 8115 Southern Blvd., West Palm Beach
  • 15475 Southern Blvd., Loxahatchee Groves
  • 1331 University Blvd. N., Jacksonville
  • 9910 S. Jog Road, Boynton Beach
  • 7785 Palm Parkway, Orlando
  • 1675 W. Oakland Park Blvd., Oakland Park
  • 8742 Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville
  • 3561 Spring Park Road, Jacksonville
  • 1055 Sun Market Place, North Port

Wawa has opened stores in Sarasota, Lake Worth, West Palm Beach, St. Petersburg, Melbourne, and Boynton Beach since the beginning of the year.

More than 250 Wawa shops are in Florida, and there are more than 1,000 in the U.S. as a whole. The company’s 1,000th store is in Oaklyn, New Jersey, and it opened on April 27 with a lot of hoopla.

The new Homestead store is near the Southwest 112th Avenue exit off of Florida’s Turnpike. It is across the street from a CVS and next to a Wawa.

The nearby Homestead Air Reserve Base is about 13 minutes away by car, and the Homestead-Miami Speedway is about 15 minutes away.

After opening its first Florida store near SeaWorld in Orlando in 2012 and having it do well, Wawa started to grow in the Sunshine State in 2017.
