WPBN: According to the National Weather Service, the snow will begin to melt on Sunday, so take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy it on Friday and Saturday.
Although about an inch or less of snow is predicted per day, snow flurries are likely to persist throughout much of Central New York on Friday and Saturday. A snow storm warning has been canceled for a large portion of the area.
However, the weather service warned that by Saturday noon, Oswego County may still see up to two feet of snowfall.
A winter storm warning is still in effect for Oswego, Lewis, and Jefferson counties as well as the northern portion of Oneida County.
According to the service prediction, winds are predicted to kick back up again Friday night in those areas as well as in small portions of Madison and Onondaga counties north of the Thruway.
Parts of those northern settlements, particularly in northern Oneida Counties, will experience severe lake effect snow bands as a result. The weather agency said that snow might fall there on Saturday at up to 1 inch per hour.
As wind speeds drop, the lake effect snow is predicted to taper off by lunchtime today closer to Syracuse and over the rest of Central New York.
Tonight and Saturday could see another inch or more of snowfall. Lows will be in the low 20s on Friday and Saturday evenings.
