West Miami-Dade Residents Stunned by Suicide Incident That Leaves Girlfriend Hurt

Early on Wednesday morning, the man shot himself in his West Miami-Dade house; according to Miami-Dade police, the same bullet that killed him also injured his girlfriend.

At a press conference held outside the home in a suburb south of Florida International University’s main campus, Det. Alvaro Zabaleta informed reporters that four additional children, ages 12, 10, 9, and one who was just five months old, were inside the house when the gun was fired.

According to authorities, the woman was transported in stable condition by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. In the house located in the 11200 block of Southwest 30th Street, the man passed away immediately.

“We aimed to make it clear that this is a suicide that has an effect on someone else,” Zabaleta stated. Additional information on the circumstances surrounding the incident was withheld by the police at first.

The owners of the house where the shooting took place informed CBS News Miami, a partner of Miami Herald, that they were awakened in the morning by the sound of kids yelling in the driveway. The homeowners informed the TV station that the couple and their four children had just moved into the house behind them.

The daughter-in-law of the homeowner stated, “We just rented them the house like ten days ago.”
