According to authorities, a woman was taken into custody on Sunday after it was reported that she fatally stabbed her son’s father at their Miami Gardens residence.
According to an arrest document, Miami Gardens police were called to the 3800 block of Northwest 177th Street about 4 p.m. by a witness who claimed to have heard a lady mention that she was reaching for a knife during a heated altercation.
Police discovered Kaity Elese Maldonado, 31, kneeling on her driveway, drenched in blood, and holding a butcher’s knife with a six-inch blade that was smeared in blood.
“He attacked me and I stabbed him,” Maldonado stated to police. “I stabbed him at least 13 times.”
The victim was in the kitchen, Maldonado informed police, and he needed an ambulance because “I think I stabbed him in the neck, too.” The man was discovered inside by the officers, bleeding profusely and with several stab wounds. After being transported by air to Aventura Hospital, he was subsequently declared deceased. His identification has not been made public by officials.
Maldonado and the victim have a 2-year-old son together and have been dating for two years, according to the police.
Officers were informed by a witness that she heard the two quarrel prior to the attack. Maldonado allegedly claimed that the victim had attempted to bite and strangle her.
Additionally, the victim is said to have asked the witness, “Why are you doing this? Please stop,” Maldonado said, reaching for a knife.
According to the affidavit, Maldonado was captured on camera getting a knife and saying, “Now I’m grabbing a knife, and I don’t give a (expletive),” before stabbing the victim while attempting to disarm her.
Maldonado was taken into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and charged with second-degree murder.
