Sunday morning at the intersection of Merrill Road and 295, a single vehicle incident claimed the life of a 1-year-old child and injured four others, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
At around 12:35 a.m., the complaint stated that an SUV was heading north on I-295, just south of Merrill Road.
The car veered off the road to the left, colliding with a railing and multiple palm palms before overturning in the center median. The report stated that the car came to rest on its roof.
A Florida Highway Patrol report states that a 34-year-old Callahan male who was driving the SUV and a 27-year-old woman who was a passenger both suffered critical injuries.
The report stated that neither seatbelts nor child restraints were used by the guy, the mother, or the 1-year-old. According to the complaint, minor injuries were also received by two more children, ages four and five.
On Sunday morning, the highways heading north and south were blocked.
