APOPKA, Fla. – A 12-year-old boy is in critical condition after his parents reported that he fell and struck his head during a camping trip. The incident occurred on June 8, while Brian Larkin was on vacation with his family in Apopka, as stated by his aunt, Shari Comp.
According to Comp, her sister and brother-in-law frequently go camping with their children, bringing along their camper and dogs. During their stay at Wekiwa Springs in Apopka, Brian had an unfortunate accident and suffered a fall, specifically impacting the left side of his head.
“He fell very forcefully, unfortunately,” Comp informed WTSP during an interview.
Brian was swiftly transported to Orland Health Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, where a neurosurgeon informed the family that he had experienced a brain hemorrhage and multiple skull fractures in a specific area of his head.
“The location of the injury is highly uncommon and extremely dangerous,” Comp stated.
Brian underwent two surgeries within four days, one of which was considered risky, as significant bleeding could have occurred, potentially resulting in fatality. Fortunately, both surgeries were successful.
“He just needs time to recover,” his aunt expressed. “The road to recovery will be lengthy.”
To financially support Brian’s recuperation, his aunt established a GoFundMe campaign to assist with the payment of his medical expenses. In a post, Comp described Brian as the shining light in their family’s lives, emphasizing his remarkable intelligence, sense of humor, and pure joy. The unexpected accident has profoundly devastated their entire family.
As of Thursday, the fundraiser has garnered over $27,000 in donations.
