12-year-old Reported Missing Found Deceased in Tallahassee, No Risk to Public

On Saturday, the search for a missing youngster of the same age in Tallahassee, Florida, came to a tragic end.

Toby Wells, a 12-year-old boy who was last seen riding his BMX-style bike on the 3800 block of Broadmore Lane in northeast Tallahassee, was the subject of an alert for “a missing runaway juvenile” that was issued by the Tallahassee Police Department at approximately midnight. The alert was for Toby Wells. In the notification, it was stated that “no foul play is expected.”

About 14 hours later, the Tennessee Police Department published an online update to the investigation, stating that Wells “has been recovered” but that “sadly, he was located deceased.”

According to what was written on their website, “this investigation is still open and ongoing.” However, there is no danger to the general population at this time.

TPD made the announcement that a cyclist had passed away after being struck by a car several hours earlier, an hour before the missing person alert was deactivated.

More than six miles distant from the location where Wells was last seen was a traffic accident that was being worked on by the agency at six in the morning in the 200 block of East Tennessee Street. During the approximately five hours while the inquiry was taking place, both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Tennessee Street were closed between Magnolia Drive and Hillcrest Street.

When contacted on Saturday, a spokeswoman for the city stated that there were no further details available on either incident and that they would not comment on whether or not the two instances were related.
