26-year-old Burglar Shot by Off-Duty Deputy During Home Invasion

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, a burglar broke into the home early on Sunday morning and was shot by a Hamilton County deputy who was returning home from work.

Deputies from Hamilton County and Reading police officers responded to a complaint of gunfire in the 1700 block of Keith Road in Reading at around 5:30 in the morning.

According to investigators, there was a fight during which the deputy discharged his own firearm.

The off-duty deputy tells dispatch in a 911 call audio that, “I’m in my personal residence. Someone broke into my house when I got off duty, and tried to attack my family. Shots fired.”

The 911 call states that the officer got into a physical altercation with the subject prior to firing bullets.

Darryl Williams Jr., 26, was shot in the leg, according to Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Kyla Woods. According to Woods, his injury is not life-threatening.

Williams ran away from the area after being shot, but Cincinnati police eventually found him, according to Woods. Williams, according to Woods, faces a single count of aggravated burglary.

The office manager of a nearby apartment complex said that they heard one gunfire at around five in the morning. They added that they had seen drones and search dogs in the area. Investigators told her to return inside after she strolled about the apartment complex at around seven in the morning, she said.
