Friends, neighbors, and family are now supporting the two mothers who are grieving an unfathomable loss, and the community is hoping that the cash prize will result in an early arrest.
To support 12-year-old Dj Dontavious Davis and 13-year-old Jakody Davis, a large group of friends, relatives, and neighbors convened on Sparks Street in southwest Atlanta on Wednesday.
Along with their just turned 13-year-old pal Lamon Freeman, both teenagers were shot outside an apartment building early on Tuesday morning.
A local priest led a prayer during the balloon release event, saying, “Lord Jesus we just ask you for help. We pray lord that you would come quickly, that you would help us and bring healing, that you would bring peace to a grief-stricken community.”
According to family friends, Dontavious and his brother Jakody went to the Sparks Street apartment to wish Freeman a happy birthday. As the three boys were about to leave the building, they heard gunshots.
The gunman claimed the lives of Freeman and Jakody.
“It was a joy to have Jakody in our lives. To take him to church with us,” a local pastor stated. Dontavious, Jakody’s brother, arrived to the hospital and is currently recuperating.
Many mothers in the community are hoping that the $50,000 prize that police are giving for information that results in an arrest would bring justice.
