According to Montana’s U.S. attorney, an 88-year-old man was sentenced to two years in prison on Thursday for his involvement in two bank robberies that occurred within four days of one another.
After being suspected of two bank robberies that occurred in August, Steven Whitecloud of Billings, Montana, entered a guilty plea to one count of bank robbery in February.
Whitecloud was given a sentence of two years in prison and three years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Susan Watters.
In addition, Whitecloud was ordered by the court to make $3,092 in reparations.
The U.S. attorney’s office said in court filings that on August 24, 2023, 26-year-old Patrick Justice, a co-defendant of Whitecloud, went into a U.S. Bank and gave the teller a note requesting money.
Following the teller’s instructions, Justice drove off in a green Ford Taurus.

After being in a Wells Fargo bank for four days, Justice told the cashier he was “strapped,” which the teller took to mean he was armed, and again produced a note demanding money. Justice was handed money by the teller.
Witnesses spotted Justice getting into the green Ford Taurus as police arrived on the site.
The car was stopped by the police after a chase, and Justice and Whitecloud, the driver, were taken into custody. In both robberies, the two allegedly stole a total of $15,000.
